Sarah and Ian's Wedding in Chapel Hill, NC
I had the amazing privilege of shooting the wedding of my sister-in-law a few weeks ago in Durham and Chapel Hill, NC. Many months ago she asked me on the phone if I’d rather be a groomsman or be the photographer. Like a smart man would answer to any bride-to-be, I responded with, “Which would you prefer, Sarah?” She said she would rather me be the photographer. I told her that I expected that to be more pressure than I’d ever had at a wedding before, but as long as she knew that she would have to see me every Thanksgiving or Christmas for the rest of her life, I would do my best to make the best images I could.
She married James Ian Cundiff (some call him Ian and some call him James) who has been a great addition to the family and a good friend to me. They were married at Duke Chapel in Durham, NC and had the reception at La Residence in Chapel Hill, just a block or two off of Franklin Street.
The rehearsal dinner took place at Sarah's father and step-mother's house which was immuculate. Shrimp and grits, cheescake, and other delicacies including a beautiful custom cake that you can see photos of in the main set.
The wedding day had a little rain at the start, but it cleared up nicely for the reception. Duke Chapel was stunning and the service was beautiful.
The events of the evening started with a cocktail hour at La Res which ended with Sarah & Ian’s first dance. From there, we all sat down for an amazing meal prepared by the staff at La Res. In between courses, everyone headed out to the dance floor to burn off a few calories for before the next course. The band, The Dickens, was phenomenal. They rocked the house and had everyone on their feet. Props go out to Sally Herring with An Elegant Affair for helping to keep the evening lovely and moving without a hitch.
The evening didn't end without the Groom getting on stage to sign a spontaneous AC/DC tune "You Shook Me All Night Long," complete with air guitar! It was a sight to see and hear.
Last, but not least, I owe a HUGE thank you to very talented Andrew Bryant for helping me 2nd shoot this wedding. I love to dance and have an all around good time and I knew I needed to be able to step out from behind the camera a every now and then, so I hired Andrew to help me cover the wedding and reception and he captured some gorgeous images. A few of these below are his. Thank you, Andrew!
Thank you also to the countless family members and guests (ahem, Alex & Emma) that took my camera for a spin and ended up capturing some fun shots of me dancing. Great work!
A slideshow of several of the images is below. The entire set of photos can be seen and ordered by clicking here. Congratulations to you both!!
